As a fully remote Physician Coding Surgical Pediatric Senior Coder, you will code surgical procedures for the Pediatric team, which covers multi-specialties including Surgical. Production expectations vary based on the type of coding—E/M, Procedures, or at least 9 encounters per hour.

• Location: Remote
• Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts
• Ideal Candidate: 3-5 years of surgical coding experience
• Requirements: 5 years of coding experience AND certification through AHIMA or AAPC as outlined below.

This position is remote and available in specific states: AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI & WY.

The hours are flexible within 7am – 7pm, requiring 5 eight-hour shifts per week, Monday through Friday, with an emphasis on productivity.

Position Summary: Performs complex professional coding for specialty or multi-specialty physician practices by reviewing medical records and ensuring accurate coding according to national guidelines. Supports department projects, validation, training, and leadership in coding discussions.

Core Functions:

• Analyzes medical records, accurately codes diagnoses and procedures, and consults with providers for clarification. Ensures compliance with coding standards and reimbursement requirements.
• Abstracts clinical data into electronic records, seeks missing information, and ensures complete documentation.
• Provides quality assurance, ensuring coding compliance with regulatory standards.
• Generates reports for research and analysis as needed.
• Identifies and corrects validation and revision issues to maintain compliance.
• Mentors less experienced staff and assists in onboarding new coders.
• Works independently, managing priorities and ensuring accurate coding interpretation.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent, with formal training or an Associate’s degree in a related healthcare field.
• Certification through AHIMA or AAPC (CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT) in active status.
• At least 5 years of complex professional coding experience in clinical specialties.
• Strong knowledge of ICD and CPT coding principles, with ability to work autonomously and with attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Radiology Certified Coder (RCC) or other specialty coding certifications.
