We have an experienced team with low turnover where everyone supports each other positively. Our team codes for multiple specialties, including surgical procedures, offering cross-training opportunities. Banner Health is a leading nonprofit healthcare system nationwide.

Position Details

We are seeking a fully remote Physician Coding Surgical Pediatric Senior Coder to code surgical procedures for the Pediatric team, focusing on multi-specialties including Surgical. Production expectations vary based on the coding task, with a minimum of 9 encounters per hour.

  • Location: Remote
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts
  • Ideal Candidate: 3-5 years of surgical coding experience with relevant certifications
  • Requirements: 5 years of coding experience and certification through AHIMA or AAPC

This position is available in specific states listed in the original description. Hours are flexible between 7 am – 7 pm, Monday through Friday, with a focus on productivity.

Position Summary

This role involves complex professional coding for specialty or multi-specialty physician practices, analyzing medical records, and ensuring accurate coding aligned with national guidelines. It includes training, quality assurance, and leadership in coding discussions.

Core Functions
  1. Analyze medical records and code diagnostic and procedural information accurately, consulting with providers as needed.
  2. Abstract clinical data into electronic records, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  3. Ensure compliance with coding regulations and standards.
  4. Compile reports and analyze medical record data.
  5. Identify and resolve validation and revision issues.
  6. Recognize complex diagnoses and procedures, ensuring accurate coding and reimbursement.
  7. Mentor less experienced staff and assist in onboarding new coders.
  8. Manage work assignments independently, interpreting coding guidelines accurately.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, specialized training or an associate's degree, plus certification (CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT) and at least five years of complex coding experience.

Must demonstrate advanced knowledge of ICD and CPT coding principles, with the ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Radiology Certified Coder (RCC) and other specialty certifications are preferred. Additional education or experience is a plus.
