Summary
The Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS) is seeking to hire a full-time, non-invasive Cardiology Physician with advanced heart failure experience. PVAHCS serves as a rotation site for Cardiology fellowship and Internal Medicine residency programs and participates in VA-led research collaborations with the University of Arizona and Dignity Health, providing state-of-the-art research facilities, including the Million Veterans Program, to improve veteran care and medical science.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be considered for referral and tentative selection but not for hiring until all criteria are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards at initial appointment are deemed to meet the basic requirements.
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA policy.
- Degree: Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited medical school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- License: Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
- Residency: Completion of an ACGME or AOA-accredited residency program leading to eligibility for board certification, or equivalent experience as deemed appropriate by the Medical Staff Executive Committee.
- Residency trainees enrolled in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed physicians but are not considered independent practitioners and will perform duties under supervision.
- English Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
- Preferred Experience: Non-invasive Cardiology.
- Physical Requirements: Must meet physical standards, including a pre-employment physical exam, and be able to perform duties involving lifting, pushing, reaching, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, and rapid coordination. Hearing aids are permitted.
Duties
- Participate in VA-led research and collaborate with University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix and Dignity Health, utilizing advanced research facilities and resources, including the Million Veterans Program.

- Work as a full-time non-invasive Cardiologist, five days a week, with rotating weekend and evening call coverage.
- Provide clinic services including veteran evaluation, inpatient and outpatient cardiac consultation, ICU, Med-Surg, and Telemetry services, triaging consults, and interpreting echocardiography, stress tests, Holter monitors, ECGs, and other procedures.
- Perform cardiac device implantations, catheterizations, CT angiography, MRI, and rehabilitation services.
- Work schedule: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday (PST).
