Job description

Summary

The Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS) is seeking to hire a full-time, non-invasive Cardiology Physician with advanced heart failure experience. PVAHCS serves as a rotation site for Cardiology fellowship and Internal Medicine residency programs and collaborates in VA-led research with the University of Arizona and Dignity Health, providing state-of-the-art research facilities and resources, including the Million Veterans Program—an innovative study aimed at improving veteran care and advancing medical science.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license requirements may be temporarily accepted, but all requirements must be completed prior to hiring. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards at initial appointment are considered to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited)
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited school
  • Current, unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.
  • Completed residency training approved by the VA in an accredited core specialty program
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible for appointment as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Preferred: Cardiology (Non-Invasive) experience
  • Physical requirements include lifting 15-44 pounds, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers and both hands, walking and standing 3-5 hours, kneeling, rapid mental and muscular coordination, depth perception, color discrimination, and hearing ability. A physical exam and drug testing are required.
Duties

This role offers opportunities to participate in VA-led research and collaborate with the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix and Dignity Health, utilizing advanced research facilities and resources, including the Million Veterans Program. The physician will work full-time, five days per week, with rotating weekend coverage and on-call duties. Clinic services include veteran evaluation and management, inpatient and outpatient cardiac consultations, ICU, Med-Surg, and Telemetry, electronic consults, echocardiography (including transesophageal and stress tests), stress testing, Holter and event monitor interpretation, ECG interpretation, and other cardiology services such as device implantation, catheterization, coronary CT angiography, cardiac MRI, and rehabilitation. The work schedule is 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday (PST).
