Summary
The Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS) is seeking to hire a full-time, non-invasive Cardiology Physician with advanced heart failure experience. PVAHCS serves as a rotation site for Cardiology fellowship and Internal Medicine residency programs, and participates in VA-led research collaborations with the University of Arizona and Dignity Health. These partnerships provide access to state-of-the-art research facilities and resources, including the Million Veterans Program, aimed at improving veteran care and advancing medical science.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements specified in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements under previous standards are considered to have met the basic qualifications.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable, in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs in the year of graduation.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S., its territories, or the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification, approved by the VA Secretary. Approved residencies include those accredited by ACGME, AOA, or equivalent programs with at least five years of verified practice in the U.S.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA-accredited programs are eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and are appointed on an intermittent or fee basis, without independent practice privileges.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

- Physical Requirements: Must meet physical standards, including passing a physical exam prior to employment. This position requires lifting 15-44 pounds, pushing, reaching, using fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, rapid coordination, depth perception, color discrimination, and hearing ability. It is a designated drug testing position with random drug testing post-employment. Hearing aids are permitted.
Duties
- Opportunity to participate in VA-led research and collaborate with University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix and Dignity Health, utilizing advanced research facilities and resources, including the MVP.

- Full-time, five-day workweek with rotating weekends, evening, and weekend call. Clinic services include veteran evaluation, inpatient and outpatient cardiac consultations, ICU, Med-Surg, telemetry, and electronic consults.
- Interpretation of echocardiography, stress testing, Holter and event monitors, electrocardiography, and other cardiac procedures such as device implantations, catheterizations, CT angiography, MRI, and cardiac rehab.
- Work schedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday (PST).
