Job summary

Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn is seeking a Physician Assistant for the Emergency Department to assist in daily patient care, order tests, and participate in rounds.

NY licensed PA with NCCPA certification, BCLS/ACLS, a valid DEA, and 3–5 years of critical care or emergency medicine experience is strongly preferred; pediatric experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, with current NYS licensure and registration.
• Board certified by the NCCPA; BCLS/ACLS certification required.
• Valid DEA number; pediatric experience and ACLS/PALS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties per Privileges delineation after training and approval.
• Orders diagnostic and lab tests with supervising physician; communicates results.
• Forms diagnostic/treatment plans and writes orders.
• Performs procedures as defined by privileges; documents in patient chart.
• Notifies attending physician of status changes or emergencies.
• Participates in rounds, teaching conferences, and quality meetings.
• Maintains department policies and safety/infection control standards.

Overview

Clinical Decision Unit / Bay Ridge Emergency/ Maimonides Emergency Department

Assists in providing care on a daily basis for all assigned patients in the Department/Division.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties as per the Department/Division “Physician Assistant Delineation of Privileges” after appropriate training and approval by the Chairman
• With approval of supervising physician, orders diagnostic and laboratory tests. Reports results of all clinical and diagnostic findings to supervising physician and with him/her, communicates results of medical examination to patients
• Formulates appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans, writes appropriate orders
• Performs procedures on patients as defined in the Department/Division Delineation of Privileges
• Documents all diagnoses, procedures, treatments, and other relevant information in patient’s chart
• Notifies attending physician of any change of patient’s status or unexpected events requiring direct physician consultation
• Participates in patient care rounds, teaching conferences and appropriate quality assurance meetings
• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, compliance, safety, environmental and infection control standards

Qualifications

Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, with current NYS licensure and registration. ED experience preferred. Board certified by the NCCPA (National Commission on Certification for Physicians Assistant) BCLS/ACLS certification required. Valid DEA number. Strongly Preferred, 3-5 years of PA experience in a related area, Critical Care/Emergency Medicine Experience. ACLS & PALS certification, Pediatric experience.

Pay Range

USD $74.14 - USD $93.82 /Hr.
