Job summary

Maimonides Medical Center in New York seeks an experienced Internal Medicine physician to join a large academic-affiliated department. You will provide patient care, engage in teaching and research, and contribute to program development within the Division of Internal Medicine.

Responsibilities include supervising residents and fellows, delivering lectures, and collaborating on quality-improvement initiatives. Current NY license and ABIM are required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited medical school.

  • Board certified or eligible in specialty area; must sit for exams when eligible.
  • Valid and unlimited license to practice medicine in New York; DEA license.

Overview

Provides medical care to patients in specialty area within scope of privileges; participates in departmental education and research activities; assists in administrative duties of department. This position will report to report to the Division Director.

Responsibilities
Patient Disease Evaluation
  • Reviews patient records, laboratory results, and laboratory images to evaluate patient disease
  • Orders tests as needed, interprets test results in coordination with others, as necessary
  • Evaluates extent of disease; stages extent of disease.

Consultation

  • Participates in consultative services of department, recommends and/or performs special studies, tests; participates in interpretation of test and study results
  • Consults with potential patients
  • Consults with referring physicians
  • Completes all documentation in patient medical records
  • Educates and counsels patient, family and care givers on medical condition, medications

prescribed, plan of care and follow-up to treatment; participates in discharge planning process as appropriate

  • Participates in consultative services of department and division, recommending and/or

performing special studies, tests; participates in interpretation of test and study results.

Education/Training
  • Supervises, teaches and evaluates fellows, residents and medical students rotating through the division as directed; prepares and delivers subspecialty lectures and conferences; participates in Grand Rounds and conducts teaching rounds as required
  • Assists in managing and conducting training programs; recommends changes in curriculum structure as appropriate and participates in developing new educational programs
  • Supervises Physician's Assistants and residents as required; reviews and signs off on PA and resident charts; performs other chart reviews as directed.
Faculty Practice

Develops and practices in department's Faculty Practice, including outreach facilities as assigned.

Research

Engages in clinical research and, where applicable, in basic research projects; directs and/or supervises research fellows as appropriate; publishes and presents results of research projects in a timely manner.

Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement

Assists Chairperson and/or Director in establishing procedures to ensure consistency and quality of all services provided by the department and/or division; participates in Medical Center's Quality Assurance program in accordance with the policies of the Medical Center and regulatory agencies.

Administration
  • Attends and participates in Medical Center and department committees as required by the Director or Chairperson
  • Works with Director or Chairperson to develop protocols and standards of care that are in compliance with requirements of the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies
  • Assists Chairperson and/or Director in departmental administration as required; recommends modifications or upgrades to equipment, implementation of new procedures; prepares reports and analyses as required
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards
  • Demonstrates safe practices when in contact or proximity to radioactive sources and or materials
Qualifications

Education:

Graduate from an accredited medical school

Graduate from an accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program

American Board of Internal Medicine certification in Internal Medicine

Board certified/Board eligible in specialty area; Board eligible physicians are required to sit for and pass their Board examinations at the earliest date possible.

Evidence of formal, supervised training or clinical experience as required for certain procedures.

Valid and unlimited license to practice medicine in the State of New York

Valid license to prescribe controlled substances.

ACLS/BCLS Certification

Valid DEA Certification

Experience:

Demonstrated experience in area of specialty as set forth in credentialing requirements for that specialty.

Skills:

Technical skills required for practice in specialty.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Good interpersonal skills.

Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.

Pay Range

USD $500,000.00 - USD $550,000.00 /Yr.
