Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies or like degree is required.
• One (1) year of full-time, satisfactory clinical experience as a Physician Assistant.
• Valid license and current registration to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
• Current certification issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Possession of a valid Life Support certification (e.g., BLS, ACLS) within 60 days of appointment.
• Patient assessment and care planning; clinical documentation; communication with providers, patients and families; teamwork; prioritization of patient care; quality assurance; staff orientation and education.

Responsibilities

• Obtains a detailed history and performs a physical examination.
• Develops an assessment and therapeutic plan and provides ongoing patient care.
• Orders and interprets lab tests, x-rays, EKGs and writes prescriptions per protocol.
• Performs procedures including drawing blood, suturing, biopsies, and assisting with imaging.
• Initiates consultations and refers for special testing per protocols.
• Participates in rounds, chart updates and progress notes, and team conferences.
• Assists with IR and CT scan procedures and communicates with providers as needed.
• Instructs patients and families about care and medications.
• Provides orientation to new physician assistants and participates in QA and education.
