Stony Brook Medicine Physician Assistants are valuable members of the Endocrinology Division providing essential clinical services to our patient population. We are seeking candidates to provide coverage of our clinical service in the outpatient setting. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence. The Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism in the Department of Medicine is seeking an outpatient diabetes Physician Assistant who will work with physicians and nurses. Successful incumbent will demonstrate excellent communication skills as well as the ability to collaborate and resolve issues to achieve desired goals. Adhere to standards of care in diabetes management, perform a physical examination and make assessment and diagnosis based on this information as well as initiate, review and revise treatment plans and record and present data to the supervising physician. Assist physician with interventional treatments. Respond to incoming phone messages from patients and make call backs to patients who are reporting responses to their attending physician. Make referrals to other healthcare providers and/or consult the physician for further definitive therapy, order and evaluate appropriate non-invasive diagnostic tests and procedures. Instruct and counsel patients and family members regarding diabetes self-management principles based on recognized curricula and national standards of care. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Physician Assistant: Current NYS Physician Assistant license. Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited school. NCCPA Certification.
  • Eligible to sit for and must pass the Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) exam within two years of employment.
  • Must possess excellent oral, verbal, and written communication skills; customer service/interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, organizational skills, time management skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • One year of post licensure experience as a Physician Assistant with experience in diabetes management and/or Internal Medicine.
  • Experience with patient education in an outpatient setting.
  • Knowledge of current clinical guidelines and standards from the American Diabetes Association, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and American Association of Diabetes Educators.
  • Previous experience with EMR.

Special Notes:

Non-Tenure Track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
