Qualifications

  • Must graduate from an approved physician assistant program within 90 days.
  • PANCE certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) prior to hire date.
  • Licensure by the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure prior to hire date.
  • Knowledge of information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with patients, family members, and staff.
  • Ability to educate patients and family members regarding disease/injury, care, treatment, and preventative health care.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Preferred: critical care or acute care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide patient medical care and promote patient health and wellness.
  • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate appropriate patient care under physician supervision.
  • Conduct complex, standardized patient care procedures and provide appropriate treatment.
  • Obtain, compile, and record patient medical data, including health history, progress notes, treatment procedures, and physical examination results.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory tests.
  • Prescribe therapy and medications according to treatment plans.
  • Educate and guide patients and families regarding disease processes, therapies, outcomes, and preventative health care.
  • Practice safety, environmental, and infection control methods.
  • Serve on hospital or medical center committees, task forces, or project teams to improve patient care or work areas.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service.
  • Serve as an expert/resource to clinic staff in the specialty area.
  • Educate and mentor students and newly hired advanced practice providers.
  • Contribute to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.
