Job summary

University Orthopedics is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) to work under physical therapists, delivering exercise, massage, gait and balance training, and other therapeutic interventions at multiple sites in Rhode Island.

The PTA will record patient progress and report results, assist with treatment, educate patients and families, and travel to all sites as needed.

A graduate of an APTA-accredited program and RI license are required, with outpatient orthopedics experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an APTA accredited school of physical therapy.
• Valid RI license as Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA).
• Experience in outpatient orthopedics/musculoskeletal rehab preferred.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assist therapists in patient care under supervision.
• Help patients perform exercises and therapeutic activities.
• Provide massage, stretching, and other modalities as prescribed.
• Use assistive devices (e.g., walkers) when appropriate.
• Educate patients and families about post-treatment plans.
• Travel to all sites as needed.

Job Title: Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)

Reports To: Physical Therapy Site Coordinator

This position is located in East Greenwich, RI.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the direction and supervision of Physical Therapists, the PTA treat patients through exercise, massage, gait and balance training and other therapeutic interventions. The PTA records patients' progress and report the results of each treatment to the Physical Therapist.

Essential Job Functions:

• Observe patients before, during and after therapy, noting the patient's status and reporting it to the Physical Therapist
• Help patients do specific exercises as part of the plan of care
• Treat patients, using a variety of techniques, such as massage and stretching
• Use devices and equipment, such as walkers, to help patients
• Educate patients and family members about what to do after treatment
• Additional duties as assigned by the Manager to meet department needs

Requirements:

• A graduate of an APTA accredited school of physical therapy
• Valid Physical Therapy Assistant State of RI license
• Previous experience in outpatient orthopedics/musculoskeletal rehab preferred
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Attention to detail
• Must be able to travel to all sites if/when necessary.
