Job summary

University Orthopedics is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) to work under the supervision of Physical Therapists. You will help patients perform exercises, apply massage and stretching techniques, and use rehab equipment to assist recovery.

Documentation of progress and communication with therapists are essential. The position requires RI licensure, graduation from an APTA-accredited program, and strong communication with patients and families.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an APTA-accredited school of physical therapy.
• Current RI license as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
• Experience in outpatient orthopedics/musculoskeletal rehab preferred.
• Strong communication and confidentiality skills; attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Observe patients before, during and after therapy and report status to the Physical Therapist.
• Assist patients with specific exercises as part of the plan of care.
• Treat patients using techniques such as massage and stretching.
• Use rehabilitation devices and equipment to assist patient mobility.
• Educate patients and family members about post-treatment steps.
• Support department needs with additional duties as assigned by management.

General Summary Of Duties

Under the direction and supervision of Physical Therapists, the PTA treat patients through exercise, massage, gait and balance training and other therapeutic interventions. The PTA records patients' progress and report the results of each treatment to the Physical Therapist.

Essential Job Functions

• Observe patients before, during and after therapy, noting the patient's status and reporting it to the Physical Therapist
• Help patients do specific exercises as part of the plan of care
• Treat patients, using a variety of techniques, such as massage and stretching
• Use devices and equipment, such as walkers, to help patients
• Educate patients and family members about what to do after treatment
• Additional duties as assigned by the Manager to meet department needs

Requirements

• A graduate of an APTA accredited school of physical therapy
• Valid Physical Therapy Assistant State of RI license
• Previous experience in outpatient orthopedics/musculoskeletal rehab preferred
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality

• Must be able to travel to all sites if/when necessary .
