Physical Therapist - Inpatient

Work hours: PRN - As Needed. Not eligible for benefits
Here’s What You Need
- Bachelor's Degree and completion of a Physical Therapy program (Required)
- 1 year of inpatient experience (Strongly preferred)
- PT - Physical Therapist license in Texas (Required)
- BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required before providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly)
What You Will Do
- Perform age-appropriate patient assessments and establish plans of care
- Obtain and verify physician orders for therapy and validate for appropriateness
- Review medical records and obtain pertinent medical history from patient or family
- Ensure informed consent is obtained from the patient
- Evaluate patients using age and diagnosis appropriate assessment tools and measurements
- Integrate assessment results to identify functional problems and prioritize care with patient and family
- Set measurable, functional goals with time frames, considering patient/family goals and preferences
- Determine care plans and appropriate therapeutic interventions
- Initiate discharge planning collaboratively with the care team and patient
- Demonstrate competence in age-specific patient assessment and care
- Perform age-appropriate treatments using suitable techniques
- Use treatment techniques appropriate to patient age and treatment desires
- Perform and delegate technical procedures safely and appropriately
- Evaluate patient response and progress, reassessing as needed
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, safety, home programs, and equipment
- Maintain patient safety throughout treatment
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team regarding patient care
- Motivate patients to participate in therapy
- Uphold professional accountability and utilize available resources
- Participate in training of staff, students, and volunteers
- Ensure care provided under their direction meets standards
- Attend meetings and educational in-services; meet productivity targets
- Represent the department positively within the hospital and community
- Complete work within scheduled hours and assist others as needed
- Seek supervision or assistance when necessary and report issues to supervisor
- Be willing to cross-train for various diagnoses or care levels
- Participate in quality improvement activities
- Maintain a safe, clean work environment compliant with regulations
- Collaborate with peers and other disciplines
- Participate in safety drills and emergency procedures as required
- Properly document all assessments, plans, treatments, and communications in accordance with guidelines
- Obtain physician signatures on care plans and re-certifications, documenting contact attempts
- Accurately record patient charges and procedures
- Document education provided and patient understanding
- Complete discharge summaries and all required documentation timely
- Report unusual occurrences and equipment malfunctions
