Physical Therapist Assistant - Inpatient/ Outpatient - Per Diem

A Brief Overview:
The licensed Physical Therapy Assistant provides direct professional patient/resident physical therapy services under the general supervision of a physical therapist. They are responsible for performing procedures consistent with or based on the age and developmental status of the patient/resident to maximize clinical outcome and safety.
What you will do:
- Knowledge of the federal, state and local laws that apply to job and area of responsibility.
- Represents NorthShore University HealthSystem in a professional manner.
- Knowledge and application of NorthShore University HealthSystem policies, procedures and service standards that apply to job and area of responsibility.
- Administers delegated direct resident/patient care.
- Demonstrates competency in all patient care service areas covered.
- Orders appropriate assisting devices as indicated.
- Instructs patient/resident and family in home program.
- Adapts treatment programs for patients/residents with multiple problems seeking guidance from primary therapist as defined by practice act.
- Maintains and adjusts schedule to meet caseload needs and all staffing levels to achieve expected level of productivity.
- Prepares and maintains accurate patient/resident records.
- Issues written instructions on home exercise programs.
- Participates in peer review process of chart audits.
- Reports on patient/resident progress at staffing and other conferences.
- Contacts physician/physician's assistant/resident appropriately to facilitate optimal patient/resident care.
- Confers with supervising therapist and other related healthcare professionals regarding patient/resident progress, treatment program and changes in status.
- Participates in in-service education for physical therapy staff.
- Provides clinical instruction of one physical therapy assistant per year as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator.
- Volunteers for community service projects as they occur.
- Assists in organizing and maintaining equipment, scheduling, etc.
- Billing is completed according to policy.
- Follow MTR guidelines and completes as required.
What you will need:
- Associates Degree Required Or
- Bachelors Degree Preferred
- Graduate of a school of Physical Therapy Assistant program with possession of an associate degree from an accredited college or university approved by the APTA.
- 2 Years of clinical experience; entry level position.
- Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with physicians, other health professionals, patients, family members, and the community.
- Must demonstrate good organizational and time management skills.
- Must be able to work effectively in an independent environment.
- Requirements also dependent on site/service candidate is being hired for - Women's Health, aquatics.
- Lymphedema knowledge is beneficial.
- Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physical Therapy Assistant in the State of IL Required.
- CPR or BLS - American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification Required.
