Job summary

Boston College is seeking a Physical Security Technician for an evening schedule to support the University’s Public Safety Technology and Building Security Systems. The role covers IP video, access control, panic and intrusion alarms, and related equipment across campus.

Ideal candidates have strong technical troubleshooting skills, a background with public safety tech, and experience with TCP/IP networks. A bachelor’s degree is preferred, and a commitment to safe, compliant security operations

Responsibilities

• Support IP Video Security Systems, Access Control, Panic Alarm and Intrusion Alarm Systems across the University.
• Assist in Public Safety Technology including MDT In-Vehicle Computers, LTE routers, radios, and mass notification systems.
• Maintain and troubleshoot networked security devices and related infrastructure.

Job Description

Physical Security Technician (evening schedule)

The Physical Security Technician reports to the Manager, Integrated Security and Information Systems and directly supports the technology needs of Boston College's Department of Public Safety; and provides on-site support for all physical aspects of the Public Safety Technology and Building Security Systems across the University including IP Video Security Systems, Access Control Systems, and Panic Alarm and Intrusion Alarm Systems.

In addition to supporting Building Security Systems, the Physical Security Technician assists in supporting all physical aspects of the Public Safety Technology used by the Department of Public Safety. Public Safety Technology includes MDT In-Vehicle Computers, LTE Trunk Routers, 800mhz / 400mhz portable and base radios (excludes repeaters and their associated antennas), FirstNet ATT and EPTT, Siren System including auditable mass notification, Smart Campus technologies including License Plate Recognition, Blue Light Emergency Phones, Dynamic Alarm Mapping, AVL Mapping, and technologies within the Public Safety Primary Communications Center and Backup Communications Center.

Hiring Range: $39.47/hr to $49.35/hr. Pay rate commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• Strong technical abilities to troubleshoot, support, and maintain critical physical security equipment supporting a 24x7 operation.
• Five years of experience as an in-field technician with hands-on experience in the troubleshooting, repair, and installation of Public Safety Technology and Building Security Systems.
• Education: Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Higher education experience preferred.
• Strong problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and project planning skills.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for problem resolution.
• Ability to work through problems and find solutions.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
• Excellent customer service skills; strong commitment to customer service.
• Excellent coordination, collaboration, writing, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a group and as a member of a project team.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
• Understanding and comfortable working with basic IP networks.
• Experience with Google Suite.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to climb a ladder at least 15ft.
• Ability to travel across campus.
• Ability and experience using hand and power tools.
• Clean driving record required.
• Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
• Certifications preferred but not required:
• Software House - CCURE 9000 Installer Certified.
• Genetec Security Center Certified.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding security floorplans, architectural, and network diagrams.
• Lead experience preferred but not required.
• Preferred Technology experience.
• Access Control and Alarm Management Systems including Card Readers, Panic Alarms, Intrusion Alarms, and Intercoms.
• Video Security Systems (CCTV) including IP and Analog Security Cameras.
• Basic Computer Networking and Telecommunications.
• Software House - Access Control and Alarm Management Systems.
• Inovonics - Panic Alarms.
• DSC (Digital Security Controls) - Intrusion Alarm Systems.
• 2N and AiPhone - Intercoms.
