Job summary

The University of Alaska seeks a proactive Assistant Access Control Systems Manager to design, deploy, and maintain our multi-campus electronic access control systems. You will work across hardware, software, servers and data integrations, coordinating with departments, vendors and technicians to ensure secure, compliant and reliable operations.

You will balance hands-on technical work with project coordination, documentation and scripting to streamline tasks.

Qualifications

Assistant Access Control Systems Manager

We’re looking for a motivated, detail-oriented, and adaptable Assistant Access Control Systems Manager to join our team!

In this role, you’ll support the design, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing management of our multi-campus electronic access control systems, including hardware, software, servers, databases, and data integrations. You’ll collaborate with departments, vendors, and technicians to ensure systems remain secure, reliable, and compliant while providing hands‑on support with system audits, user access requests, hardware expansions, database reporting, data scripts, server configurations, and technical troubleshooting.

This position is ideal for a self‑motivated professional who thrives in a fast‑paced, service‑oriented environment and can successfully balance planned projects with unexpected operational needs. You’ll need strong organizational and problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize competing demands while keeping both immediate needs and long‑term goals on track.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently as well as coordinating and leading the work of others. If you enjoy a combination of hands‑on technical work, systems administration, project coordination, and collaborative problem‑solving, we’d love to hear from you.

To thrive in this role, you need strong analytical and organizational skills, along with excellent communication and customer service abilities. Confidence in technical writing and the capacity to explain complex systems to diverse audiences is essential. You should have experience in operating system configuration, software deployment, and documentation. Familiarity with communication and networking protocols such as RS‑232, RS‑485, Ethernet, and IP is important. Proficiency in IT automation and scripting using tools like PowerShell, Bash, or Python is also required to streamline tasks and boost efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and three years progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record meeting UA Safe Driving Criteria.

New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
