Job summary

Parsons School for Design at The New School is seeking Student Assistants for the Photography Labs and Equipment Resource Center in the Making Center on campus. You will help checkout tools, assist with reservations, maintain lab spaces, and support technicians.

This on-campus role requires excellent customer service, reliability, and the ability to work evenings or weekends as needed. Join a diverse community and gain hands-on experience in a vibrant design education environment.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with attention to detail.
• Able to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate with Making Center users.
• Adaptable and consistent when notifying supervisor of schedule changes.
• Ability to interact with diverse students, faculty, and staff.
• Able to work without close supervision or alone; comfortable in a student worker role.

Responsibilities

• Assist students and faculty with checkout of tools/equipment and reservations.
• Monitor making spaces and assist staff with daily processes and projects.
• Provide high level of customer service and professional demeanor in all interactions.
• Perform reception duties including greeting visitors and answering phones.
• Assist with shop upkeep, organization, and maintenance across labs and resource centers.
• Support inventory management, supplies restocking, and equipment safety protocols.
• Help train new users and perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Participate in training sessions and staff meetings.
