Job summary

BMCHS is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician I to provide laboratory services including registration, specimen collection, processing, and related duties. The role includes performing venipuncture on patients and maintaining equipment, within the Phlebotomy Outpatient department.

Schedule: Full Time, 9:30a-6p M-F with rotating weekends and holidays. You will use EPIC for patient registration and LIS for laboratory functions, ensuring accurate labeling and timely specimen routing.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy and/or specimen processing experience preferred.
• Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills required.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipunctures according to policies and procedures, including timed specimens, blood cultures, and pediatric/neonatal specimens.
• Identifies patients and labels specimens per policies.
• Receives and prepares specimens for analysis and testing.
• Centrifuges and aliquots specimens and follows handling instructions.
• Optimizes routing of specimens and work benches and supports stat vs. routine prioritization.
• Prepares workstations with essential supplies and maintains equipment.
• Records temperatures and performs routine equipment maintenance.
• Documents issues and communicates with supervisor.
• Uses LIS in laboratory information system for ordering and entry tasks.
• Performs EPIC patient registration, including demographics, insurance validation, and MRN assignment.
• Answers phone per department policy and procedure.
• Adheres to hospital standards and supports patient rights and care quality.
• Participates in safety, infection control, and competency training.
• Assists in training lab support staff and students.
• Completes relevant logs and quality improvement documentation.
