Job summary

You will support billing and clerical tasks, assist with inventory, and process test requests while maintaining data accuracy in the laboratory information system. Prior phlebotomy experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates knowledge a nd experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
• Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
• Keyboarding and typing skills.

• Good listening skills.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and handle multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Verifies positive patient identification to ensure patient safety.
• Performs venipuncture and collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients.
• Ensures specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing.
• Performs limited testing under CLIA guidelines.
• Answers and screens telephone calls; assists with inventory and billing support.
• Packages and tracks specimens for transport and processes tests.
• Orders and verifies test requests; documents information for QA/improvement.
• Performs laboratory result entry in the computer system.
• Participates in proficiency testing and reports generation.
• Instructs staff and students in phlebotomy and data entry functions.
• Provides age-appropriate care and understands growth and development.
