Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a dedicated phlebotomy technician to join the clinical laboratory team. You will collect blood samples by venipuncture and capillary puncture, process nonblood specimens, and assist with specimen handling from collection to transport.

The role includes patient registration, phone support for patient care areas, and documentation in the hospital information system. Training for new staff and adherence to safety protocols are essential components of the job.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred where phlebotomy is a duty.
• Knowledge of safety hazards and universal precautions to establish a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

• Collects and processes patient blood samples by venipuncture and capillary puncture.
• Process nonblood specimens timely and accurately.
• Assist in specimen prep, receipt, and transport of specimens.
• Perform patient registration and provide phone support for patient care areas.
• Maintain competency with hospital information systems and document results.
• Train new team members and students in procedures and standard work.
• Receive lab orders, prepare documentation, and perform routine tests.
• Document tests and label specimens according to standards.
• Maintain supplies, cleanliness, and organization of the work area.
• Follow safety procedures and use PPE to prevent infection and contamination.
