Responsibilities

• Verifies patient identification and assesses reactions to specimen procurement.
• Performs venipuncture and collects specimens from newborn to adult patients per protocol.
• Labels and ensures specimen quality; resolves identification/requisition problems.
• Performs limited testing under CLIA guidelines.
• Answers calls; assists with inventory and billing-related tasks.
• Receives, sorts, packages and tracks specimens for transport and testing.
• Orders and verifies test requests; conducts quality control checks.
• Performs data entry of laboratory results into the system.
• Instructs staff and students in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
• Assesses age-specific patient needs and provides appropriate care per department policies.
