Job summary

Geisinger Wyoming Valley (GWV) seeks a Phlebotomy Technician to collect specimens, accessify and process them for testing in Laboratory Medicine. The role covers venipunctures, specimen preparation, labeling, and compliance with CLSI guidelines in a clinical setting.

The position supports various Laboratory Medicine sections, mentors students and new staff, and may engage in in-home phlebotomy and outreach as needed. Salary commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) - Required
• Related work experience - Required
• One of: Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ASCP) OR NAACLS-certified Phlebotomy program graduate OR 1 year related experience

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture per CLSI guidelines.
• Process and accession specimens; ensure positive identification and proper labeling.
• Handle potentially infectious materials per regulatory standards.
• Troubleshoot orders, process specimens for testing, and communicate results.
• Mentor students and new employees; assist with packing and referrals to reference labs.
