Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, performs venipunctures and capillary punctures, collects throat swabs for culture, and instructs patients on proper collection of urine specimens. Accesses computers for ordering tests, printing labels, and collecting demographic data. Assists in clerical tasks. Ensures that the collecting area is adequately stocked with supplies. Prints ‘Specimen Collection’ reports and responds appropriately to all uncollected work listed on the report. The above statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job and are not an exhaustive list of all work requirements inherent in the position.
Education: Prefer high school diploma or equivalent (i.e., GED).
License/Certification: Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
Additional skills/abilities: Verbal communication skills for interacting with patients and clients; ability to perform numerical calculations; visual acuity for performing specific lab tests.
