• Schedule - Shift - Hours PRN - As Needed - Hours Vary

Under direct supervision, performs phlebotomy procedures to obtain and prepare blood specimens for analysis. Processes phlebotomy paperwork and tabulates data. Performs various clerical functions.

Responsibilities

Performs phlebotomy procedures on inpatients and outpatients in all age groups to obtain blood specimens according to established aseptic techniques. Collaborates with peers to create staffing schedules. Verifies patient information, accurately labels specimens, and explains specimen collection methods and procedures to patients. Communicates with patient care staff to assure correct orders. Approaches and identifies patients appropriately. Performs phlebotomy according to established policies. Accurately processes, receives, labels, aliquots, and distributes all specimens brought into the laboratory via computer or manual systems. Accurately verifies patient identity and labels all specimens according to established policies. Correctly records the collection of each patient specimen. Provides courteous patient/customer service, using communication techniques that are open, honest, and age appropriate; communicates accidents or injuries immediately to the Laboratory Manager. Appropriately sends specimens to the laboratory from collection rounds.
