Job summary

Harlingen Medical Center is seeking a Per Diem Phlebotomist to support blood collection across day, evening, and night shifts. You will prepare patients, perform venipuncture, label specimens, and ensure safe handling through the testing process.

A High School Diploma and BLS are required, with 2+ years of clinical laboratory experience preferred. Per diem roles offer competitive pay and benefits with flexible scheduling to support patient care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current.
• Minimum of two years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for blood draws, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the process
• Responsible for correct blood collection, draw blood from patients using venipuncture, capillary puncture, or other techniques; ensure proper identification and labeling of specimens
• Organize, handle, and transport specimens to the laboratory for testing, ensure all specimens are properly processed and stored
• Adhere to quality control and safety protocols to maintain the integrity of specimens and ensure accurate test results
• Maintain and calibrate phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensure everything is in working order and properly sanitized
• Perform more complex or specialized phlebotomy procedures as required, often with minimal supervision
