Job summary

Valley Baptist Health System is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to perform venipuncture, specimen receipt, and distribution of laboratory specimens. You will conduct CLIA waived tests and assist in microbiology processing as needed.

Requirements include a high school diploma and 1 year of lab experience or phlebotomy training; preferred LIS experience and phlebotomy certification where required by state law. This role is based in Harlingen, TX and part of the hospital laboratory team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred: completion of a phlebotomy program.
• 1 year of laboratory experience or completion of a formal phlebotomy training program.
• Basic laboratory computer/LIS experience preferred.
• Phlebotomy certification required where state law requires.
• National phlebotomy certification preferred (ASCP/ANP/APST or similar).

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and specimen receipt; distribute laboratory specimens.
• Perform CLIA waived testing as requested.
• Assist in microbiology processing and plating as needed.
• Register specimens and handle billing related to specimens.
