Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Phlebotomy certification required for the state of employment.
• 0-2 years of relevant experience.
• Minimum of 6 months of hands-on venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting preferred/required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Demonstrated knowledge of blood collection and specimen handling procedures.
• Ability to accurately follow physicians' orders, laboratory protocols, and specimen handling requirements.
• Strong communication and patient-service skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws/venipunctures using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Collect and process various specimens, including blood, urine, and fecal specimens, as required.
• Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients clearly and courteously.
• Review physicians' orders and laboratory test requirements.
• Verify test requisitions and labels against orders to ensure accuracy.
• Label all specimens according to procedures; centrifuge, split, and freeze samples as required.
• Store specimens at required temperatures and transport them properly.
• Assist with troubleshooting and workflow improvement recommendations.
• Attend required departmental/training sessions and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
