Job summary

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy on patients for required tests.
• Follows accession orders, selects peripheral vein, cleans site and applies tourniquet.
• Draws correct number and types to tubes on properly identified patients.
• Ascertains tubes contain sufficient blood and are appropriately labeled.
• Bands tubes according to labs as per established protocols and places tubes in carriers.
• Prepares donor assessments, checks vital signs, medical history and documents results.
• Communicates problems or issues to management.
• Keeps work area clean and safe; disposes of contaminated equipment.
• Performs daily/weekly/monthly quality control for designated equipment.
• Accounts for delegated tasks within RN/CNM scope.
• Follows OSHA, NYSDH, CAP guidelines.
