Job summary

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, part of the Optum family, is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Patient Service Technician at varying levels (I, II). The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level based on qualifications and experience, and will contribute to patient care under supervision of licensed medical professionals.

Primary responsibilities include venipuncture and specimen collection, CLIA-waived testing, accurate record-keeping, and adherence to safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association; must obtain within 30 days of hire.
• No experience required if completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Program OR 1 year of directly related phlebotomy experience in a patient service center, clinic, or hospital setting.
• Able to use related equipment, and comfortable with computers and Windows-based software.

Responsibilities

• Perform pediatric and adult venipunctures, finger sticks, heel sticks and other collection services as ordered by the provider.
• Perform CLIA waived testing (e.g., urine dip, pregnancy tests, finger-stick glucose, rapid influenza tests, etc.).
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and make available for inspections/audits by Lab staff and CLIA surveyors.
• Perform necessary quality controls and participate in proficiency testing as required; maintain lab instruments per manufacturer recommendations and safety guidelines.
