Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum: High School Diploma.
• Preferred: Phlebotomy Certificate and/or Associates degree in chemical/physical/biological sciences.
• Minimum: Experience with data entry, medical terminology and customer service.
• Preferred: 1-2 years lab/phlebotomy experience.
• Minimum: BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Supports the hospital's mission through customer-focused service.
• Responds to inquiries from customers regarding laboratory services including specimen requirements, turnaround times, reference ranges and reporting; communications are positive and courteous.
• Collects STAT, timed and routine venous and capillary blood specimens from off-site facilities and hospital patients in accordance with SOPs.
• Instructs patients in proper collection/handling of non-blood specimens.
• Generates and reviews collection lists and pending logs in LIS; coordinates with nursing units and off-site facilities to track pending collections.
• May use personal vehicle for transporting specimens or Riverview-provided vehicle; maintain proof of insurance and valid license; follow Vehicle Safety Policy.
• Performs specimen processing: receiving, LIS data entry, specimen identification, processing, referral testing prep, and temperature-controlled storage.
• Reviews orders for completeness and enters test orders in LIS.
• Performs daily temperature and function checks; reports any deviations.
• Uses PPE per hospital and laboratory policies; complies with all procedures and attendance expectations.
• Performs CLIA WAIVED testing as trained.
• Trains new staff on Medical Necessity Guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
