Job summary

Keck Hospital of USC is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support specimen collection and processing in a busy acute care lab. You will draw blood, screen specimens, and transport materials while maintaining specimen integrity and safety protocols.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, a accredited phlebotomy program background, CPT certification, and at least one year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical environment. Strong communication and computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate from accredited Phlebotomy program required.
• 1 year phlebotomy experience preferred (acute care setting).
• CPT certification required (CA DPH).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong analytical abilities.

Responsibilities

• Obtain blood samples by venipuncture or capillary methods.
• Screen specimens for acceptability per guidelines.
• Deliver blood products and specimens to appropriate lab sections.
• Process, distribute, or package specimens (excluding Anatomic Pathology).
• Answer inquiries about lab results and specimen status.
