Job summary

UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL seeks a phlebotomy technician to perform venipuncture and specimen collection for microbiology and chemistry analyses. Under supervision, you will prepare and store samples and ensure accurate data entry in LIS/HIS systems.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to support patient care, billing compliance, and efficient workflow across infant to adult patients.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required or GED.
• Completion of phlebotomy training program or 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Prefer GPA of 3.0 or above and computer skills to operate hospital systems.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and advanced venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures on infant, pediatric and adult patients.
• Receives specimens, places orders in LIS/HIS, accessions, sorts specimens and distributes to designated areas, ensuring proper billing documentation.
• Prepares samples for testing and stores them for microbiology, hematology, immunohematological and chemical analyses.
• Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
• Provides laboratory information and assistance to health-care providers, patients, families, and coworkers.
• Supports cost-saving ideas and adapts to varying workflow.
