Job summary

UF Health Durbin Park seeks a dedicated phlebotomy technician to perform venipuncture, specimen accessioning, and safe sample handling in a hospital setting. You will ensure accurate labeling and proper preparation for testing while delivering excellent patient service.

Responsibilities include patient identification, sample collection across all ages, training staff, adhering to safety standards, and coordinating with the laboratory team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; medical assistant certification preferred.
• Hospital phlebotomy experience and age-diverse sample handling preferred.
• Proficiency with laboratory information systems for accessioning and tracking.

Responsibilities

• Draw blood using established departmental procedures with minimal patient discomfort.
• Verify patient identity with two identifiers and label specimens in front of the patient.
• Collect samples from newborns to elderly and ensure proper handling.
• Provide instruction and training on lab procedures to staff and students.
• Follow safety policies, PPE usage, and department procedures meticulously.
• Resolve unusual orders by contacting providers and notifying supervisors as needed.
• Monitor inventory and inform supervisor when supplies need restocking.
