Job summary

Northcountryhomehealth Hospice seeks a Laboratory Assistant to perform phlebotomy, specimen processing, registration, and limited laboratory testing in a patient-facing role. The position requires a high school diploma, phlebotomy experience preferred, and familiarity with Meditech LIS.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, time management, and meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate specimen handling and timely reporting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• One year phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Phlebotomy certificate desirable.

Responsibilities

• Obtains specimens and independently performs waived and moderate complexity tests.
• Assists with quality controls and projects as assigned.
• Performs phlebotomy duties, collecting venous and capillary specimens.
• Completes paperwork for specimen processing (registration, order entry, results).
• Transports STAT blood work and notifies Lab staff of urgent tests.
• Cleans and disinfects equipment.
• Assesses patient risk and refers as needed.
• Ensures Medicare tests meet medical necessity guidelines when indicated.
• Consults with ordering practitioner about test diagnoses when needed.
• Registers patients and enters orders in Meditech; completes required paperwork.
