Job summary

UF Health is seeking a dedicated phlebotomy technician to join the Gainesville laboratory team. You will perform venipuncture, collect specimens, and ensure accurate processing in a hospital lab environment.

Under supervision, you will manage orders in LIS/HIS, prepare samples for various analyses, operate equipment, and assist healthcare providers. Strong interpersonal skills and initiative are essential for success.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of phlebotomy training or 6 months phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Preferred: health-related program graduate, AP science courses, or science studies (3+ credits).
• GPA 3.0 or above recommended.
• Must have computer skills using a PC and LIS/HIS.
• Demonstrates initiative, multitasking, and teamwork.
• Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and advanced venipuncture and specimen collection on infant, pediatric, and adult patients.
• Receives specimens and enters orders in LIS/HIS; ensures orders are complete for proper billing.
• Prepares samples for testing for microbiology, hematology, immunohematology and chemistry analyses.
• Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
• Provides lab information to health-care providers, patients, families, and co-workers.
• Supports cost-saving ideas and adapts to workflow changes.
