Job summary

UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL is seeking a dedicated phlebotomist to perform routine and advanced venipuncture and specimen collection under supervision. You will process specimens, enter orders in LIS/HIS, and help ensure proper billing and specimen handling.

Responsibilities include preparing samples for testing, operating and maintaining equipment, and supporting healthcare teams with accurate results while upholding quality and cost-conscious practices.

Qualifications

• Completion of phlebotomy training program or 6 months of phlebotomy experience.
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• CPR certification is required.
• Ability to operate hospital information systems (LIS/HIS).
• Proven interpersonal, multitasking and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and advanced venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures on infant, pediatric and adult patients.
• Receives specimens, places orders in LIS/HIS, accesses, sorts, and distributes specimens, ensuring proper billing with signatures and accurate diagnosis codes.
• Prepares samples for testing; processes and prepares biological samples for microbiology, hematology, immunohematology, and chemical analysis.
• Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
• Provides information and support to health-care providers, patients, families, and coworkers.
• Supports cost-saving ideas and adapts to workflow demands.
