Job summary

UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL is seeking a motivated phlebotomist to perform routine and advanced venipuncture and specimen collection under supervision. You will process and route specimens in LIS/HIS, ensure accurate labeling and support quality and safety standards in a fast-paced laboratory setting.

The role requires completion of a phlebotomy program or equivalent experience, basic computer skills, strong customer service, and a CPR certification.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Requires completion of phlebotomy training program or 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience (clinical or hospital based preferred).
• Must have computer operational skills using a personal computer, laboratory system or other hospital information system.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and advanced venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures on infant, pediatric and adult patients.
• Receives specimens, places orders in LIS/HIS, accessions, sorts specimens and distributes to designated areas. Insures written orders are complete in order to meet federal compliance requirements for proper billing, including authorized signatures and accurate diagnosis codes.
• Performs various functions to prepare samples for testing. Processes and prepares biological samples, blood and body fluids, for microbiology, hematology, immunohematology and chemical analysis.
• Operates and maintains equipment.
• Provides laboratory related information and assistance to health-care providers, patients, family, and co-workers.
• Demonstrates a concern for financial strength and fiscal responsibility by supporting cost-saving ideas.
• Daily tasks are integrated into workflow adjusting for periods of increased and decreased activity.
