Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform blood draws at the lab Blood Draw Station under the Laboratory Medicine department. You will interact with patients, obtain accurate patient registration details, and ensure proper documentation and billing information.

Responsibilities include collecting specimens, verifying orders, and maintaining compliance with HIPAA and regulatory standards while supporting efficient blood draw operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy Certification or equivalent is required.
• 1+ year phlebotomy experience or completion of a phlebotomy internship preferred.
• Strong customer service and communication skills; ability to interact with diverse patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy for patients at draw station locations.
• Review patient information and insurance details for billing and EMR accuracy.
• Create MR numbers and complete patient registrations in the EMR.
• Communicate test orders, specimen collection details, and any issues to patients and staff.
• Ensure ABNs, pre-authorizations, and pre-certifications are obtained prior to specimen collection.
• Label specimens accurately and maintain specimen integrity during handling and transport.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, JCAHO, and regulatory standards.
