Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Lab Assistant II to collect blood samples and assist with specimen processing in a busy laboratory setting. You will perform venipuncture, capillary puncture, and urine specimen collection while ensuring proper labeling and patient identification.

Responsibilities include entering orders into LIS, verifying diagnoses for billing, and delivering specimens to the correct areas. Proficiency with LIS, HIS and EPIC is required, along with maintaining safety and quality

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; higher education supersedes this
• Successful completion of a phlebotomy course required

Responsibilities

• Greets and interacts with all patients in a professional manner.
• Performs patient preparation and specimen collection, venipuncture and capillary puncture.
• Receives orders from provider and enters them into LIS with correct diagnosis and billing code.
• Ensures patient identity verification and proper labeling of specimens.
• Prepares specimens for transport and delivers to the appropriate technical area on time.
• Operates LIS, HIS and EPIC technology proficiently.
• Maintains a safe environment and follows universal precautions.
