Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect blood specimens and perform basic tests with a strong emphasis on patient care and accuracy. The role is non-exempt, 32 hours per week, with evening shifts and every-other holiday/weekend as scheduled.

Qualifications

• High School diploma with phlebotomy training or documented phlebotomy experience.
• Basic life support certification required within 3 months of employment; annual competencies updated.
• Flexibility to travel to other locations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary collection using proper equipment and techniques.
• Reviews physician orders to ensure tests meet Medical Necessity guidelines.
• Prepares ABN for tests that do not meet Medical Necessity and obtains required signatures.
• Performs EKG, pulse oximetry and point-of-care testing as requested and maintains instrumentation.
• Processes specimens: centrifugation, pour-off, aliquoting, labeling and packaging.
• Provides patient data and insurance information for specimen registration; may create registrations in ADT system.
