Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring an Outreach Phlebotomist to perform venipuncture and capillary collections, assist with EKG testing, and transport specimens to the Laboratory. The role requires phlebotomy training, completion of BLS within 3 months, and prior phlebotomy experience.

Travel to other campuses may be needed. Excellent patient care and accurate record-keeping are essential as part of this 40-hour night-shift position in Central Massachusetts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and phlebotomy training completed.
• BLS certification within 3 months of employment.
• Prior phlebotomy experience required.
• Willingness to travel to other campuses as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary collection using proper equipment.
• Review physician orders to ensure correct tests are drawn and ABN signatures obtained.
• Perform EKG and point-of-care testing and maintain related equipment.
• Process and label specimens, and transport to the laboratory.
• Provide patient data for registration and enter data into LIS as needed.
• Search MPI for patient demographics using the LIS.
• Log specimens and assign accession numbers.
• Label and package specimens for transport to the lab.
• Maintain inventory and replenish supplies as needed.
• Keep accurate records of procedures and monitor refrigeration temperatures.
