Responsibilities

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a Spanish-speaking Phlebotomist to join its clinical team in Adelphi, MD. This is a contract position for a projected duration of 3 months with strong potential to convert to a permanent role, supporting patient specimen collection and laboratory workflow in a fast-paced clinical setting.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge samples according to established procedures
• Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) clearly and courteously to patients
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures
• Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
• Record maintenance data, perform decontamination duties, and update patient information
• Troubleshoot issues, assist with training, and make workflow recommendations

Required qualifications

• Must speak Spanish
• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states)
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Minimum 1 years of experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
