Location: Fredericksburg, VA | Schedule: Full-time, on-site, 8am-5pm M-F (contract, 3 months with potential for permanent placement) | Compensation: Not specified

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a Phlebotomist to join its laboratory team on a contract basis with potential for permanent hire. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection and handling, supporting quality patient care and reliable diagnostic testing.

What you'll do
  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance and decontamination data
  • Update patient information as needed
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
  • Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
  • Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
  • Package specimens for transport
  • Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend annual department trainings
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
  • Assist with various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and workflow recommendations
