Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Phlebotomist for the Olathe Cancer Center to perform phlebotomy and specimen processing in a fast-paced clinical laboratory setting. This role emphasizes accurate tube labeling, patient identification, and adherence to hospital standards.

The Phlebotomist will interpret orders, release and receive specimens in HIS/LIS, and may provide support to nursing staff as needed. The position is full-time, with daytime shifts (M-F) in Olathe.

Qualifications

• Must be able to interpret orders and accurately identify the correct tube type for each test.
• Follows regulatory, accreditation, safety and hospital standards including positive patient identification.
• Performs data entry in applicable information systems and handles specimen processing as required.

Responsibilities

• Performs blood draws by venipuncture according to standard protocol, ensuring patient safety and quality specimen collection.
• Interprets orders from providers in HIS and outside sources and prepares labeled tubes for transport.
• Coordinates with Phlebotomy Coordinator or Lab Leadership when assistance is needed.
• Troubleshoots difficult orders and missing specimens in collaboration with the team.
• Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and supports other staff as needed.
