Job summary

HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital is seeking a Lab Assistant / Phlebotomist to perform specimen collection, processing, and registration under supervision. You will support a busy lab with duties spanning phlebotomy, specimen processing, data entry, and coordination with referral labs.

The role requires 2+ years of clinical lab or registration experience, strong customer service, and strict adherence to safety and privacy policies.

Qualifications

• Ability to interact with co-workers in a team environment
• Demonstrates excellent customer service in all interactions
• Effective communication with personnel to exchange technical information
• Assist in communication to customers, floors, physicians regarding problem and/or pending specimens
• Requires 2+ years experience performing registration, clerical duties, and sending out of specimen processing
• Follows safety policies and procedures
• Protects sensitive and confidential information through privacy & security awareness
• Adheres to company policies and standards regarding security
• Completes assigned courses and training annually
• Available to work during disasters

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates understanding of specimen collection and testing requirements and rejection criteria
• Perform venipunctures and finger sticks on diverse patient populations
• Centrifuges and aliquots specimens according to type and tests ordered
• Prepare specimens for courier pickup and follow physician orders
• Manage specimen documentation and chain-of-custody procedures
• Register and order entry procedures accurately and timely
• Keep records and resolve specimen problems to ensure test validity
• Assist in clerical duties including phones, faxes, and reports
• Maintain clean work area and follow spill response protocols
• Troubleshoot specimen issues and communicate with referral labs
