Job summary

MLK Community Healthcare in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect specimens from patients and assist the Clinical Laboratory Scientist when possible. You will report to the Phlebotomy Lead and Lab Manager and help with specimen processing and filing.

Qualifications

• 6 months of experience in blood specimen collections; 3 years preferred.
• Internal candidates with Current CA Certified Phlebotomy Technician License will be considered.
• Proficient with LIS and computer applications.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers from the American Heart Association.
• Must complete annual Workplace Violence Prevention Program/Certificate, per hospital policy, during initial training/orientation but not to exceed 30 days from hire/transfer.

Responsibilities

• Restock phlebotomy supplies for all shifts.
• Responsible for all clerical duties.
• Communicates appropriately with coworkers, hospital personnel, physicians.
• Maintain coverage of the laboratory to provide adequate patient care, which may require “last minute” schedule changes.
• Collects samples from inpatients using standard venipuncture or skin puncture techniques according to established policies and procedures.
• Inventories, reports and restocks all phlebotomy testing supplies to ensure continuity of activities.
• Delivers specimens to the lab as needed.
• Responsible for data entry and appropriate proficiency using the Lab Information System (LIS) Computer systems.
• Is proficient in using manual backup to the Lab Information System (LIS).
• Assist customers with LIS Information.
• Assures that the workplace is clean and neat.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
