Job summary

MLK Community Healthcare in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Phlebotomist responsible for collecting specimens from patients and supporting the CLS when needed. The role includes clerical duties, specimen processing, and maintaining LIS data accuracy.

The ideal candidate has a High School diploma, 6 months blood collection experience or more, and a CA Phlebotomy Technician license if available. BLS certification and workplace violence training are required or to be completed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 6 months of blood specimen collection experience; 3 years preferred.
• CA Phlebotomy Technician License preferred for internal candidates.
• Current BLS certification required or to be completed during orientation.

Responsibilities

• Restock phlebotomy supplies for all shifts.
• Perform clerical duties for the lab.
• Communicate with coworkers, hospital staff, and physicians.
• Maintain coverage to ensure adequate patient care and respond to last-minute changes.
• Collect samples from inpatients using venipuncture or skin puncture per policy.
• Inventory and restock phlebotomy supplies to ensure continuity.
• Deliver specimens to the lab as needed.
• Data entry and LIS proficiency; use manual LIS backup.
