Job Summary

Summary
Responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing.

Essential Functions
-Draw blood for tests, transfusions, donations, or research. May explain the procedure to patients and assist in the recovery of patients with adverse reactions.
-Dispose of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
-Draw blood from veins by vacuum tube, syringe, or butterfly venipuncture methods.
-Dispose of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies.
-Draw blood from capillaries by dermal puncture, such as heel or finger stick methods.
-Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer.

Qualifications

Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred MGH Security RMV Check/Registry of Motor Vehicles Driving Report - MGB Internal preferred Experience None required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of various techniques in collecting specimens. - Familiarity with HIPAA and OSHA Regularities and an ability to maintain absolute discretion over highly sensitive patient information. - Talking to others to convey information effectively. - Demonstrates proficiency of proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens. - Superior customer service skills, clear communications skills, and ability to show empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy. - Knowledge and practice of proper aseptic techniques necessary to prevent injury to self and patients.
