Job description

Job Title: Part-Time Phlebotomist

The Hanover Phlebotomy department is seeking a reliable part-time phlebotomist to travel daily to local outpatient sites in Adams and York County for blood draws and specimen collections. Reliable transportation is required.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, flexible hours between 5:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with rotating weekends and no holidays.

Purpose:

This role involves accurately performing phlebotomy and specimen collection for inpatients and outpatients. Collected samples are used for laboratory testing essential to patient diagnosis and treatment. The phlebotomist may also perform clerical duties, computer functions, and courier tasks, working under the supervision of Medical Technologists.

Responsibilities:

1. Interact courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers; respond promptly to telephone inquiries.
2. Procure blood specimens via venipuncture, heel stick, and fingerstick following proper patient identification procedures.
3. Instruct patients on specimen collection procedures when applicable and collect samples other than blood as needed.
4. Demonstrate dependability, reliability, and good judgment, prioritizing tasks to meet department needs.
5. Perform specimen collection at off-site locations when required.
6. Transport specimens safely from collection sites to the laboratory, following safety protocols.
7. Follow laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, safety, quality control, and hygiene practices.
8. Perform clerical duties such as data entry, test ordering, and billing, ensuring sample and patient information accuracy.
9. Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned.
10. Report any unusual or problematic incidents to technical staff, supervisors, or pathologists.
11. May perform arterial punctures following strict guidelines.
12. Monitor and maintain supplies efficiently and cost-effectively.
