JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for drawing blood samples from patients safely and accurately for testing and research. Submits samples of blood, urine, or tissue with proper labeling for analysis to the laboratory.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Education: Entry-level phlebotomist or completion of a Phlebotomy program in an accredited college or university. High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Licenses and Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) courses accredited by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

JOB DUTIES
- Obtain blood specimens by venipuncture and/or capillary puncture with minimal trauma, using appropriate collection devices.
- Instruct patients on proper urine sample collection.
- Research specimen requirements prior to collection, maintain a fast turnaround time, and use Epic Beaker for lab order entry.
- Verify test orders, maintain specimen integrity, and ensure proper labeling and handling.
- Support quality assurance activities, monitor pending lists, and participate in performance improvement activities.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients of all ages and backgrounds, addressing concerns professionally.
- Process laboratory samples, prepare aliquots, and dispatch specimens accurately.
- Adhere to safety protocols, perform inventory management, and provide training to others as needed.
- Ensure all tests are properly ordered and tracked, maintain supplies, and keep work areas organized.
- Participate in incident reporting and process improvement initiatives.
- Manage daily workflow, act as a liaison for phlebotomy issues, and perform blood collections and special tests as defined.
- Follow attendance policies and perform other duties as assigned.
